We were so enamored with the 2007 Régnié by Henry Fessy that we used PAWineTalk's awesome wine map widget thingy to find out which stores still had some and we ran out to buy more at Store 5155 in Society Hill. This time we had it with tortellini and broccoli and it was just as delicious. Raspberry fruit up front and pleasant mild tannins on the finish. We are loving this wine!
Later a friend called while in Store 5155 to ask about Viognier. We told her to forget that and to grab some of this Régnié. She asked a PLCB employee for help finding it. After going to "look it up," he came back to report that they didn't have any and that we must have got it through a special order. Still on the phone, we again used the wine map widget to explain that the store should have 21 bottles, and by the way the code was 18368. He found it.
This reminds us of the infamous Cabernet Franc incident, (see also here and here) in which a PLCB employee insisted that Cabernet Franc (not just a bottle but the entire grape) did not exist.
When buying wine in PA remember that the common advice for how to buy wine--start a relationship with the staff--doesn't really work with many PCLB Wine and Spirits Store employees. Not only are they likely to not be knowledgeable about wine in general, but occasionally you can't even trust them to know what wine they have in the store.
