PA Winter Warm-It-Up Sale Big Markdowns

PA is having a sale with some big markdowns through the Fine Wine and Good Spirits web site.  If you've never done it before, you can buy the wine through the web site and they ship it to a state store of your choosing.  There is a modest shipping and handling fee. Hogue Genesis with Steak and Root Vegetables

This is a great Cabernet from Columbia Valley in Washington State  to have around.  It's not spectacular, but it's decent and a good price at $8.99.  It pairs well with red meat and root vegetables.

Available at 1218 Chestnut, 169 units as of today.

Wine Review Carini Cuvee Sixty Five, Napa Valley 2003

How do you know when a wine is good? We're not sure, but we know when we're enjoying it, and that's when it's impossible for us to not finish the bottle.   This  Cabernet Merlot blend from Napa had Esperanza Spalding on the nose, Phillies-Reds on the mid palate, and Miles Davis on the finish.  Just really really good. Thank you California.

Wine Review Wild Oak by Saint Francis Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

As the weather in Philly gets cooler, it's time to start enjoying some of the bigger reds. This Cab from Sonoma has a big luscious nose of dark fruit--mostly blackberries and cherries. There's a lot of tannin in this wine, so it helps to air it out for 30-45 minutes before drinking.  Same dark fruit on the palate, nice silky full bodied mouthfeel, a little pepper, and a lovely finish.  A perfect match for grilled sirloin.

Although this wine is called Cabernet Sauvignon, it is actually a blend of Cab Sauv 79%, Merlot 10%, Petit Verdot 6%, and Malbec 5%. Which just goes to show that even though Americans like to think in terms of varietals, once again it's really the French style blends that rule the wine world. 

This is widely available in Philly at $14.99 in the State Stores. Prices range from $13.95 to $17.99 a bottle across the country as seen on Wine-Searcher.com.
