Sparkling wine is just wine with bubbles. You don't need a special occasion to drink it and it goes well with all kinds of food. A well-known value strategy is to purchase Prosecco from Italy instead of the more expensive Champagne that is produced in France.
If you've never watched one of Gary Vaynerchuk's videos on Wine Library TV, you can see him in action here, putting this Ca' Furlan Prosecco up against the Wine Spectator 90 point rated La Marca. Gary V is a big fan of Prosecco in general and he absolutely loved this Ca' Furlan, even more than the La Marca.
At Philly Wine Finder we're all for appropriate stemware, so it pained us to have to drink this out of plastic cups, which may have had something to do with the fact that we got nothing off the nose of this wine. On the palate we picked up grapefruit and a bit of pear. Definitely nice and frothy, some sweetness but nothing to be afraid of...this is no Asti. It easily passed our "finish the bottle" test, which is always a sure sign that we enjoyed it.
When the topic of Chairman's Selection wines come up, detractors of the PA Wine and Spirits stores often say that these are wines no one else wants. Gary V's positive review, plus the many favorable reviews on CellarTracker, indicate that this is not the case with this one; Ca' Furlan is no dump wine. At $8.99 this is the best price in the country--we suggest you buy it soon, it may go fast.
Available at 19th and Chestnut, JFK, 12th and Chestnut, Society Hill, and 232 Girard.
